Jeans Day

My life has become so pathetic recently that two things about tomorrow are exciting me beyond belief:

1. Jeans Day

2. Team Ice Cream Run

My company believes in business-casual dress, meaning no tennis shoes, no jeans, no denim, no sleeveless shirts, blah blah blah. (I consistently break the sleeveless-shirt rule. shhhh). Every once in a while, HR will throw us a bone and make a huge announcement that we can wear jeans to work (gasp!) as long as we're not interacting with clients. In a rare move, we will be having two consecutive Friday Jeans Days. (Although last week didn't count because I had to interview someone and couldn't wear jeans. The damn injustice of it all.) This means I can put my feet up on my desk and not have to worry about flashing everyone because I'm wearing a skirt. I don't have to worry if my pants are wrinkled, and it takes me two seconds to dress in the morning. Perhaps the funnest thing about Jeans Day is getting to see how people dress outside of work. As my friend Scott pointed out, you get to see who the real Office Hoochies are. And that is the true beauty of Jeans Day: judging people based on their lowrise, G-string baring, denim-clad asses.

But the mere fact that I get excited at the thought of wearing jeans to work is frightening. Anyone else remember the days of working the Currier Front Desk in your pajamas? Or the days where you owned 23 pairs of flip-flops and no close-toed shoes? And you didn't have to worry about your hair being unkempt (although I still haven't brushed my hair since 1994). Who knew I would become so pathetic so young?

And, to make Jeans Day even better, I arranged for a team Ice Cream Run to the Cold Stone Creamery at AmeriStar. We're departing at 1:28 P.M., so if you want to feel like you're part of my team, drop what you're doing at 1:28 and find the nearest ice cream shop. Eat your body weight in ice cream, and then roll back to your office/car/home/pond. As a manager, I get to do these things now. Yep, my biggest accomplishment is not the work I've done with my direct reports, but the fact that I can arrange an Ice Cream Run in the middle of the work day. It's good for team morale, right?

Anyway, I've got to go find my Goonies belt to wear with my jeans on Jeans Day. Because denim is never complete without a picture of Sloth on your pelvis.
