One of my favorite things about Sunday nights in college was Sunday was my night to hang out with Colleen. We would watch Alias and Buffy the Vampire Slayer together, usually ordering Papa John's pizza and eating ourselves silly. Once we left college, we continued to "watch" the shows together by calling each other during commercial breaks to talk about what was going on. Dorky, yes, but it was always an excuse to talk to Colleen.
The series finale of Alias was this past Monday night, and I reluctantly watched the final two hours of the show. I'll be the first to admit that I have an unhealthy obsession with Jennifer Garner (how is it that she was so skinny before she had her baby, the poor child who has to go through life knowing that her father is smarmy Ben Affleck?) and Michael Vartan (how could Jennifer Garner choose smarmy Ben Affleck over Michael Vartan? How?). And I'm secretly in love with Kevin Weisman and Greg Grunberg; if forced to chose between saving one of their lives--and only one--I don't know who I would pick. But, as most fans of Alias seem to think, the show lost its appeal somewhere after the second season when JJ Abrams ditched the show and ABC demanded that Alias dumb down its storyline in an effort to reach a wider audience. It didn't work, and the plug was finally pulled on Alias. Colleen stopped watching regularly in Season 4, and I plunged on, willing the show to get better. It didn't, and I found the series finale to be disappointing.
Anyway, if you want to see the sad mess that Alias turned into, ABC put all Season 5 episodes online. But, for Colleen and Anna, the other two Alias fans I know, you have to check out this montage to Evil Francie. It rocks, and you can be reminded of the good days of Alias. And ponder who thought it was a good idea to get rid of Will and Francie.

Megs, I wish I could say the fond memories I have of the first two seasons of Alias and our times together in your dorm room (and they are fond memories) are enough to sustain my interest in the series long enough to even care how it ended. Alas, they are not. JJ Abrams, you had a brilliant and ground-breaking series that you handed to ABC to destroy. For that, I can never forgive you. Long live Evil Francie and Will.
