I Shake My Fist at You!

I shake my fist at you, Blockbuster!

Despite saying I would boycott Blockbuster, I lied. I'm renting DVDs online from them, which is actually one of the best online rental deals (3 DVDs out at a time, 2 free movie rentals/month for $14.99).

Anyway, yesterday I went to use my free rental coupons since Mom and Jerry are in town and neither one of them or Brett had seen Napoleon Dynamite. I also picked up Hotel Rwanda (which is an amazing movie that you have to rent--I don't consider myself a crier, but I was in tears).

As the Blockbuster guy checked my movies out, he said in an extraordinarily loud voice that customers browsing in the A section of the New Releases had to have heard: "Ah, Hotel Rwanda." and paused, leading me to believe he was going to comment on how it was a good choice or something, but then he went on to say "Napoleon Dynomite." in the same loud voice. Pause. "So let's see, you're checking out Hotel Rwanda and Napoleon Dynomite." In our brief interaction, he repeated the names of my movies six times. Loudly.

I am so glad I decided not to rent Showgirls or Deep Impact or anything with a porno sounding name.

I rent hilariously bad movies all the time like "Dancing at the Blue Iguana" (a movie about strippers starring Jennifer Tilly, Daryl Hannah, and Sandra Oh)... and I live in fear of the shop clerks judging me.

Plus - last month I stalked Blockbuster (seriously went in every day to look) while waiting for the fourth disc of Queer as Folk season four to get returned. One day, the guy at the counter (who had been there the previous three days) said before I even got past the desk, "It's still out!" I was so embarrassed I called them the next day, rather than risk the embarrassment of coming in again.
