Modest Mouse

Tommy and I ate lunch together today. As we were driving to North Bowl (the Chinese restaurant where the owner knows my name and greets me personally every single time even though I only go there like once every three or four months), Tommy had his Good News for People Who Like Bad News CD playing. I must have been singing along, because Tommy asked "Are you singing?"

"Yeah, I guess I know this song," I responded.

"How do you know Modest Mouse?" a bewildered Tom asked.

[Pause, because I was still jamming out and not really sure.] "I don't know, I guess it plays on the radio station I listen to."

Tom shooke his head. "I guess I need to start listening to something else."

This brings up the point that Tom thinks I have bad taste in music. Mostly it's because I don't swoon at the sound of Johnny Cash or Willie Nelson (both musicians who make Tom drool), and, while I can't remember what I ate for lunch yesterday, I know all the words to songs by people like Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, and the Spice Girls. However, it must be noted, that I also know the words to songs by The Beatles, The Clash, The Doors, Bob Marley, Cake, Willie Nelson, and, apparently, Modest Mouse.

This is a sign that I should be sleeping with a musician.

[As a side note, Best Buy classifies Modest Mouse as Pop music. You're listening to POP music, Twait. Also, the radio station I listen to in KC, 97.3 The Planet, does not play anything by Jessica Simpson, Hanson, 50-cent. It's a good station.]
