Why is it that perfect strangers find it necessary to comment on my height? Case in point, in the bathroom at the theatre tonight, some 10-year-old girl standing behind me said to her mother (who was standing next to me at the sink), "Wow, she sure is tall."
To which her mother replied: "I always wished I was tall so that I could play basketball." (Because, as everyone knows, Tall = Basketball.) Rather than putting duct tape on her daughter's mouth for her obvious lack of tact which should have been developed by the age of 10, and reflected that statement, Like Mother Like Daughter.
To which I replied: "Height doesn't necessarily guarantee anything." and walked out of the bathroom.
So, my all time favorite question about my height: "Gee, you sure are tall. Do you play basketball?"
Hmm, let's see. Just because you're short, you don't hear me asking you if you're a jockey.
